"A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face... one of the few havens remaining where a man's mind can get both provocation and privacy."

—Charles Langbridge Morgan

Genealogy is a major interest here and we house a one-of-kind collection of Las Animas County and the City of Trinidad.

GenealogyOur collection includes:

  • Trinidad Obituaries
  • All the city directories published
  • Large collection of books on southern Colorado
  • Building survey of the Corazon de Trinidad
  • A selection of mortuary and coroner’s reports
  • Complete microfilm of all newspapers published in Trinidad.

Notes:

  • All items in the History Collection must stay within the room.
  • Only paper and pencils may be taken into the History Room.  Lockers will be provided for purses, backpacks, and other personal belongings.
  • These archives are provided on a "Search-It-Yourself" basis.  We do not have enough staff to assist in searches.  (We will, of course, provide brief instructions to visitors on the use of the microfilm reader.)
  • We do accept requests for historical information; they are fulfilled by volunteers and such research does incur small fees. Please fill out the History Room Information Request Form.
